How Much Does It Cost To Travel In Japan?

Since I blogged about my Euro Trip cost, I received enquiries about cost for my Japan trip since I have been there for a few times. Someone said RM1000 is enough to last you for 5 days in Japan. Of course you can. And of course you can't. Well.. it all depends on your style of travelling..

Anyway, here's one example of the total expenses for my Japan trip. My first personal trip cos all the trips before that was work-related so everything was paid by my company.

Winter 2013 (Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka-Nara)
Duration : 20 Feb 2013 ~ 2 March 2013  (11 days)

Transportation

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

• Flight KL - Haneda (AirAsia) - RM 305
• Flight Osaka - KL (AirAsia) - JPY 12150 ~ RM370

Total = RM 675

Japan

• Reload Suica card - JPY 7000
• Willer Express to Kyoto - JPY 8100 
• 1 day Kyoto bus pass - JPY 1500 ( 3 days)
• Subway to Dobutsuenmae - JPY 230
• Osaka Subway pass - JPY 800
• Kintetsu to Nara - JPY 540
• Kintetsu to Namba - JPY 540
• Airport Express to Rinku - JPY 740
• Sky shuttle to airport - JPY 100

Total = JPY 19550  ( ~ RM 595 )

Total transportation costs = RM 1270


Accommodation

• Tokyo - Anne Hostel : JPY 5700 for 2 nights
• Tokyo - Youth Hostel : JPY 3400 for 1 night
• Kyoto - Hana Hostel : JPY 4140 for 2 nights
• Osaka - Toyo Hotel : JPY 4500 for 3 nights 

Total = JPY 17740 ( ~ RM 530 )

Total accommodation costs = RM 530


Meals

• Total = JPY 6526 ( ~ RM 200 )

Total meals cost = RM 200

Kyoto

• Kinkakuji - JPY 400
• Ryoanji - JPY 500
• Ninnaji - JPY 500
• Ginkakuji - JPY 500
• Tenryuji - JPY 500

Osaka

 Total = JPY 14300 ( ~ RM 435 )

 Total attractions cost = RM 435

Miscellaneous

• Locker @ train station - JPY 300, JPY 400
• Hotpack - JPY 298, JPY 167
• Souvenirs T shirt - JPY 1000
• Souvenirs folded mirror (5 pieces) - JPY 1500
• Souvenirs fridge magnet (2 pieces) - JPY 1200 

Total = JPY 4865 ( ~ RM 150 ) 

Total miscellaneous costs = RM 150


GRAND TOTAL = RM 2585

For an 11-days trip, that's quite affordable right? As usual, I don't include all my shopping escapades and souvenirs (just included the basic ones for your guidance). If you like to buy gifts or souvenirs for your family and friends, bring more $$$ !
